According to the wholesale trade index released by the Department of Statistics, for 2020, the Wholesale Trade for the Telecommunications & Computers Sector recorded year-on-year decline in domestic sales of 11 per cent due to lower consumption but saw double-digit growth in foreign sales of 30 per cent due to higher sales from new mobile phone launches.
Telecommunications Products - Gloom Time
Singapore serves as a distribution center for companies interested in selling telecommunications products to the region. Over 90% of telecommunications products imported into Singapore were re-exported for third country consumption.
Raduga Pte Ltd, Telechoice and Prime Net are good examples of companies in this sector. They are distributors of mobile phones, providing end-to-end solutions for brand principals. They have distribution networks that span several countries, with local representatives in each country providing their expertise in handling every step of the distribution process, from logistics to marketing and sales.
Other companies like V-Trust Pte Ltd are into mobile phones as well as tablets and accessories. On the other hand, Yong Kheng Trading focuses on distributing innovative mobile phone accessories and lifestyle products. They source products directly from quality factories globally in order to offer customers high quality, low cost and most trendy products.
Computers - Boom Time
2020 saw an increase in demand for computers and peripheral devices as multiple family members of each household needed a personal device for study, work or entertainment. Before that, sales were sluggish, with people only upgrading or replacing their appliances when required.
Ingram Micro is a global distributor of computer and IT products based in Singapore. It has local sales offices and representatives in 64 countries, 189 logistics centers and service centers worldwide. It represents over 2,000 suppliers, including Acer, Apple, Cisco, Citrix, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft and Samsung. It focuses on growth opportunities within the hard-to-reach SMB market as more businesses use technology to add scale, enhance services and improve productivity. It is probably the only global broad-based IT distributor with a significant Asia Pacific presence. Local IT wholesalers include Achieva Technology Pte Ltd, Convergent Systems, Ban Leong Technologies Limited, and Corbell Technology Pte Ltd.
