Soon Aik started as an automotive spare parts shop in the early 70’s. Today, the group’s main businesses are in the retail, import, export, wholesale and distribution of automotive and heavy duty machinery parts. Other businesses in the group are automotive services, design & visual communication, warehouse storage systems, packaging supplies and solutions, warehousing space, self-storage space, office design & furnishing, metal and office partition supplies and logistics and transportation. The company is present in more than 40 countries.
Soon Aik’s approach:
Soon Aik recognised that their Principals are initiating online portals for them to place orders. At the same time, in a survey for 50 local auto workshops, Soon Aik found that 82% indicated lower price and quick service as priority. They highlighted long waiting time, unsure of product availability, cross-reference for product alternative and the inability to monitor orders as the four key pain points. This became the driving force of their digital transformation journey.
In 2016, the company launched the online e-service portal (OES) for internal use.
As a result, the time spent on quotations and phone calls, and monitoring shipments and orders were reduced tremendously. Later, OES was made available to customers for them to get quotations and place orders. The OES transactions had greater order values than via phone and email methods. OES has the following benefits:
- Fast and easy to order online
- Cross-reference alternative products
- Monitor order and delivery status
- Dashboard and reporting tools
- Multiple User access
- Accessible anytime and anywhere
The company has also implemented a delivery management software, Detrack, to digitise the delivery documentation and scheduling process. With all documents now being digitalised, the supply chain became more efficient.
Customer satisfaction has improved due to the convenience and speed of self-service and remote interactions. These digital solutions were replicated across other subsidiaries and partners with15% increase in customers.
What’s next for Soon Aik?
Going forward, the company will migrate to an end-to-end solution instead of individual silo systems.
Zooloo's DSM Suite 2.0 is an example of an end-to-end solution that Soon Aik is looking for. It is a cloud-based platform which allows wholesalers to sell, buy, and market their products seamlessly, thus reducing human intervention and increasing productivity.
